LibrarIN at LIBER 2025: Driving Collaborative Innovation in European Libraries

The LibrarIN project proudly participated in the Networking Power Session during the 54th LIBER Annual Conference, held from 2–4 July 2025 at the University of Lausanne. Under the conference theme “Engage, collaborate, innovate: libraries working to address global challenges”, this vibrant gathering brought together over 500 research library professionals from across Europe and beyond to explore how libraries can serve as engines of innovation and social transformation.

Representing LibrarIN, Anna Triantafillou, Director of the Innovation Lab (iLab) at Athens Technology Center and Project Coordinator of LibrarIN, joined Marieke Willems, Senior Research Associate at The Lisbon Council to present “Innovation and Value Co-Creation: Shaping the Future of Libraries – The LibrarIN Project.”

This dynamic session offered a unique opportunity for informal dialogue, peer learning, and cross-sectoral exchange. The LibrarIN team engaged participants in exploring how public service innovation and value co-creation can reshape the future of European research libraries. Through open discussion, Anna and Marieke shared key policy recommendations, collaborative tools, and practical insights drawn from the project’s ongoing research and engagement activities.

A particular highlight was the introduction of the LibrarIN Toolkit — a growing collection of resources designed to support library innovators in navigating the transition from top-down to bottom-up service design models. The toolkit offers actionable guidance, real-world examples, and methods to foster stakeholder participation, community building, and social innovation in libraries.

Participants were also encouraged to explore the project’s broader knowledge base, including its policy briefs, reports, and research publications. These resources aim to equip the research library community with evidence-based insights and recommendations for future-oriented action.

The Networking Power Session allowed the LibrarIN team to connect with a broader community of research libraries committed to embracing change and working collaboratively to address global challenges. As the project continues to evolve, these conversations will help shape its impact and reinforce its mission to support libraries as co-creators of public value.

Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming events, new toolkit resources, and insights from the LibrarIN community!
